OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma - January 22, 1996 - Cisco Systems, Inc., theleading global supplier of internetworking solutions, has been awarded a$2.9 million contract to supply the backbone infrastructure for Oklahoma'sOneNet network. OneNet is Oklahoma's statewide communications andinformation network that will link local, county and state agencies,courts, colleges, universities, public libraries and schools.
Based in Oklahoma City, OneNet was developed through partnerships betweenthe state of Oklahoma and private companies, like Cisco Systems. OneNetusers will be able to take advantage of a number of video and dataservices, including videoconferencing, USENET news feeds, electronic mailand the Internet. For example, communities can hold statewide videoconferences, courts can access law libraries throughout the nation andstudents can browse the information and resources available through theInternet.

OneNet will utilize fiber-optic cable, digital and analog microwave,satellite and wireless technology. Cisco will be providing the networkinginfrastructure and critical security functionality throughout the OneNetnetwork. Cisco's networking hardware and software products will connect 33sites and will act as concentration points for voice, data and videotraffic from throughout the state.
