SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 11, 1995 -- Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced theaddition of a new RISC-based router to its Cisco 4000 series of mid-rangerouter products. Available immediately, the Cisco 4700, when used incombination with Cisco's ATM Network Processor Module announced in July 1995,is an ideal solution for providing local-area network (LAN) and wide-areanetwork (WAN) access to Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) backbones. The new Cisco 4700 router is also highly optimized for reliable IBM Data-Link Switching (DLSw) internetworking and routing of native Advanced Peer-to-Peer Networking (APPN) traffic. The router will be unveiled at Cisco's booth at Networld+InterOp in Atlanta on September 25-29, 1995.
Equipped with a 133-megahertz, RISC-based CPU and a fast secondary cachemodule, the Cisco 4700 router is one of the industry's highest performingDLSw routers. When teamed up with Cisco's new ATM interface, the Cisco4700 router is also a superior method for providing a large number of LANswith low-cost ATM connectivity.
