SAN JOSE, Calif., June 21, 1995 -- A new partnership between Cisco Systemsand Litton-Fibercom will enable customers to transport video images andperform circuit emulation over their Cisco-based Asynchronous Transfer Mode(ATM) networks.

The dual-pronged alliance calls for both joint marketing and technologysharing by Cisco and Litton-Fibercom. The companies will market andreference-sell each other's products: Cisco'sLightStream100 and 2020ATM switches, and Litton-Fibercom's CAM 7650 and 7640 ATM Cell AdaptationMultiplexers. In addition, a subset of the Cisco InternetworkOperatingSystem (Cisco IOS(tm)) will be integrated into CAM products, allowingthem to provide robust multiprotocol LAN interconnection.

Larry Lang, Cisco director of marketing for core products said, "TogetherCisco's ATM switches and Litton-Fibercom's CAM multiplexers will letcustomers dispense with their dedicated analog video networks and use thedigital network infrastructure for shared data and video transmission.Inside the corporation this will facilitate such video applications astraining, inter-office conferencing and CEO broadcasts. Between companiesor research institutions it will mean long-distance interactiveteleconferencing, telemedicine or distance learning without the use ofleased or dial-up lines. This product combination also can be used forlow-speed circuit emulation, enabling a user to get voice onto his ATMnetwork just by plugging in a PBX unit."

Jack Freeman, Litton-Fibercom vice president of sales and marketing, said,"Today industry service providers are looking for standards-basedend-to-end video, voice and data networking solutions. Our partnershipwith Cisco will give both network access providers and private enterprisecustomers the end-to-end multimedia network solutions they have beenseeking."

McLeod Network Services uses both the Cisco and Litton-Fibercom products.Phil Kennedy, McLeod's director of networking, said, "The combination ofLitton-Fibercom's ATM service multiplexer and Cisco's ATM switches make foran unbeatable end-to-end price-performance solution."

Cisco's LightStream 100 and LightStream 2020 ATM Switches provide LAN andWAN internetworking for the workgroup and the enterprise, respectively. The LightStream 100 is a fully non-blocking 2.4-Gbps switch supporting 16modular ATM interfaces. The LightStream 2020, supporting Ethernet, FDDI,ATM and frame relay, offers the industry's most advanced traffic shapingand buffer management, providing complete control over bandwidthallocation, quality ofservice and congestion avoidance.

Litton-Fibercom's CAM products allow users to connect a variety of servicesthrough an ATM network, converting non-ATM signals into ATM cells andmultiplexing them onto a single DS-3 or OC-3c ATM UNI. The modular CAM7650 and 7640 platforms, supporting four and 15 user service accessmodules, respectively, handle both constant bit-rate (e.g., PBX) trafficand data (e.g., Ethernet or Token Ring LAN) traffic, and accept multiplevideo streams.
