Cisco Establishes IBM Business Unit in RTP, Names Wellman Vice President/General Manager

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., May 10, 1995 -- Cisco Systems, Inc., hasformed a new business unit based at its newly occupied facility here, andhas named F. Selby Wellman as the unit's first vice president and generalmanager.

Cisco's IBM Internetworking Business Unit is chartered to address theintegration of existing SNA-based computer networks with non-SNA local-and wide-area networks. The company inaugurated operations in the Triangleregion of North Carolina in 1993, and last month occupied the firstbuilding on its 43-acre site in Research Triangle Park. Over 200 peopleare currently employed at the site.

Wellman spent 15 years (1968-83) with IBM in sales and marketing managementpositions of increasing responsibility, finishing as branch manager in theLarge Account Division. He subsequently worked with several networkingfirms, serving in corporate vice president positions at Paradyne Corp.,FiberCom and NetEdge Systems. His most recent position was as presidentand CEO of FaxAmerica, Inc., a Jacksonville, Fla., firm chartered to builda nationwide facsimile transmission data network.

Selby's considerable experience in theIBM marketplace, a well as with entrepreneurial companies involved in othersegments of the networking market, will make him a valuable contributor toCisco."

Wellman, who joined Cisco in late April, reports to Chambers. Reporting toWellman are Cisco's IBM internetworking engineering team, led by CliffMeltzer, and product marketing team, led by Nick Francis. Wellman, 53,holds a B.S. degree in finance from Marshall University. He is moving hisfamily from Roanoke, Virginia to the Triangle area.
