PARIS, France, October 28, 1993 -- At Interop Paris, today, Alcatel,the world's largest supplier of telecommunications equipment, and CiscoSystems -- the world's largest router supplier -- announced that they havesigned an OEM agreement wherein Alcatel will offer Cisco products as itspreferred partner for router equipment, and a codevelopment agreement thatgrants Alcatel the right to integrate Cisco technology directly intoAlcatel products. The agreement is effective immediately.
In the Alcatel-wide agreement, Alcatel will offer customers Cisco'scomplete range of internetworking routers, including the Cisco 7000, AGS+,4000, 3000, 2000, and 500, in conjunction with Alcatel's wide spectrum ofbusiness, network, and data communication systems.
According to Hugues Garin, President, Alcatel Business Systems, thecodevelopment agreement means that, for the first time, the world's mostpopular routing technology will be physically built into the Alcatel System4400, the first ATM-ready PBX, as well as, the Alcatel 1100 HSS, thepowerful, high-speed ATM wide-area switch designed for use in enterprisenetworks, and formally launched today at Interop Paris.
At the Interop announcement, Jacques Dunogue, President of Alcatel DataNetworks said, "This agreement represents a positive step not only forAlcatel and Cisco, but for Alcatel customers worldwide, including AlcatelData Networks' more than 300 private and public data network systems in 110countries around the globe.
"Cisco's technology is highly complementary with our core accessswitching products. Incorporating their proven routing capabilities willyield products that can serve Alcatel customers' LAN internetworking needs,as well as their more traditional devices," said Dunogue.
