MENLO PARK, Calif., Oct. 20, 1993 -- Alcatel CIT, Cisco Systems,Inc., and France Telecom today announced that the three companies areplanning to show an ATM interoperability demonstration at Interop Europe 93(Paris, Oct. 27-29).
In the interoperability demonstration, the three companies willshow LAN internetworking through an ATM network. Cisco AGS+ and Cisco 7000routers will be connected to Alcatel 1000 AX ATM switches which will runLAN traffic over a public ATM service operated by France Telecom.
With 134,000 employees and a continuous growing sales volume ofapproximately 110 billion French Francs in 110 countries, Alcatel hasbecome the world's leading communication systems manufacturer. Alcatel CIT,Alcatel's lead house for Broadband ATM product development, has built a newATM switching system Alcatel 1000 AX, already installed for the very firsttransfrontier network (France-Switzerland) and currently under testing byFrance Telecom for the first national public network using ATM technology.
As France's eighth largest enterprise in terms of revenue ($25.8billion in 1992), France Telecom is now the world's fourth largesttelecommunications operator. The French operator employs 168,000 people insome 25 offices worldwide. France Telecom via its subsidiary Transpac,operates the world's largest public packet-switching network. FranceTelecom is pioneering in ATM technology.
