Names Takatoshi Matsumoto General Manager
MENLO PARK, Calif., June 8, 1992 -- Cisco Systems, the leading worldwide supplier of internetworking routers, has moved to further strengthen its current number one position in the Japanese marketplace by opening a subsidiary company, Nihon Cisco Systems K.K., in Tokyo. Nihon Cisco Systems will be responsible for supporting the sales efforts of Cisco's distributor in Japan, Net One Systems Co., Ltd, and the company's strategic OEM channel partner, NEC Corporation.
To spearhead the expansion of the company's presence in Japan, Cisco has brought in Takatoshi Matsumoto as general manager of Nihon Cisco Systems. Matsumoto is well known in Japan for his success in establishing Nihon Sun Microsystems K.K. in 1985 and growing the Sun subsidiary to over $300M annual revenue and 250 people by 1989. Most recently, Matsumoto was president of System Software Associates Japan K.K., a Japanese subsidiary company he established in 1989.
"Our current success in the Japanese market and Takatoshi Matsumoto's appointment as Cisco's general manager for our operations in Japan both foreshadow a bright future for internetworking in Japan," said John Morgridge, president and chief executive officer of Cisco. "There are two items of particular interest to note in this announcement.
"First, the opening of this new support center in Japan demonstrates Cisco's firm commitment to maintaining our position as the leading global provider of internetworking solutions. A critical part of our continued success will be our ability to deliver top quality, consistent service and support in all international markets. Second, Matsumoto is uniquely qualified to strengthen and expand our operations in Japan as he has an outstanding track record and reputation for building just the type of organization that is required to successfully service this market."
