São Paulo, Brazil – May  28, 2013 - Cisco today announced that TIM Brazil, one of Brazil's leading service providers, has selected Cisco Videoscape® Distribution Suite Transparent Caching (VDS-TC) as the technological infrastructure to deliver video content across multiple screens, protocols, applications and networks. The solution can enable TIM to transparently and quickly deliver Internet content, including video and data, with improved quality, for both fixed and mobile devices, while reducing network load and decreasing operation costs by 20 to 30 percent.

With video predicted to represent around 60% of all consumer IP traffic by 2016, according to the Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI), TIM is facing the challenge to expand the infrastructure to support the rapid growth of video applications and highly secure services with high resolution and perceived access speed.

Cisco VDS-TC will help TIM meet these challenges by optimizing bandwidth capacity in the backbone, reducing costs and improving the speed of the wide variety of content delivered to its customers. The solution typically reduces the impact on traffic growth between 30% and 40%, avoiding congestion and reducing the bandwidth requirements from core and international peering to the edge. The solution provides content closer to endpoint devices, improving the experience of streaming video, reducing its download time as well as the download time of traditional HTTP applications and software updates, such as those for mobile devices, tablets and PCs .

"With Cisco VDS-TC, TIM gains a high-performance content-delivery-capable network to provide its customers with a superior experience to access content on demand from multiple devices while  driving efficiencies in its operations, with important cost reductions," said Hugo Baeta, regional director for Service Providers, Cisco Brasil.

"This project confirms TIM's commitment to provide innovative solutions aligned with the strategy of constant improvement in quality perception. This solution will generate an improvement in data access services to the current 2G, 3G and fixed users. With the introduction of 4G technology in TIM network, that gain will be even more effective. The increase in smartphone penetration and the development of new applications demand ever more bandwidth. This platform will be an important element in this new reality of the data service," said Cicero Olivieri Goncalves, director at Fixed & Transport Network, TIM Brazil.
