CISCO LIVE! CANCUN.- October 6, 2013.- In order to offer new experiences to its customers, Mexico’s leading pay TV company, Megacable, is launching its service “Megacable OnDemand,” based on the Cisco Videoscape™ Unity service delivery platform.

Megacable is the first service provider delivering an Over The Top (OTT) service in Latin America. Starting today, Megacable’s 2,200,000 cable subscribers will have access to the Megacable OnDemand platform that will allow them to enjoy their favorite TV programs and live channels wherever they are, whenever they want, using any device in their home.

Megacable OnDemand is a subscription service that will cost 75 pesos per month (about US$6) with unlimited access to the best and broadest OnDemand content with over 3,000 hours of movies and a wide variety of TV series for all ages.

The TV Everywhere solution architecture is based on the Cisco® Videoscape Distribution Suite for Internet Streaming (VDS-IS) and the Cisco Videoscape Acquisition Suite. This technology will help Megacable offer its customers broad access to video on demand, as well as exclusive live programs, accessible through PCs, Macs, or iOS or Android devices.

The Cisco Videoscape Unity services delivery platform offers powerful new capabilities across cloud, networks, and clients that can help evolve Megacable’s system architecture. It focuses on a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, consistent interface that brings together video, social networking and other information, using multiple screens for personalized, synchronized, and more social experiences.

The platform offers service providers the possibility to monetize new services from their subscribers who are expected to access the programing using any device at any place.

  • Cisco Videoscape Distribution Suite enables Megacable to distribute video content across multiple screens, protocols, applications and networks. VDS serves as the network distribution engine behind the Videoscape architecture. It is an open, component-based, complete, interoperable and holistic solution that bridges cloud and network functionality – providing greater levels of insight into, and management of, content delivery networks.
  • Cisco Videoscape Acquisition Suite uses advanced encoding and transcoding tools to help Megacable deliver real-time and on-demand media to any device, with the best video quality, based on the available bandwidth

The service will be available to Megacable’s customers during a initial launching phase and in the future will be available for any customer from any company.
