MEXICO CITY – 1 November, 2012 – Cisco announced today that Cisco Live! Mexico will be the most connected event in history. In order to offer the optimal experience to all Cisco Live! Mexico attendees, Cisco has invested in a campus-wide business optical network at the Moon Palace hotel in Cancun. The 9 kilometers of fiber-optic pairs will offer transmission rates of 40 Gbps across 790 provisioned ports. It will connect the Cisco®  network infrastructure, based on Cisco Nexus® switches, Cisco Catalyst® 6509 VSS, and Cisco 3700 Series routers, implemented in the data center of the Moon Palace 6 kilometers away from  the Convention Center where Cisco Live! will be taking place.

The network will support over 60 live and simultaneous demos, providing bi-directional 200 Mbps upstream and downstream Wi-Fi access and continuous connectivity for the estimated 9,000 mobile devices that attendees will bring. Cisco Live! Mexico is expected to see the highest density of mobile devices to date in a single event in Mexico.

More than 40 Cisco certified engineers from Mexico and Cisco’s corporate headquarters, with a combined 360 years of experience, collaborated over a six-month period to develop plans for implementation and operation to prepare for the project.   The installation of the final network equipment is due to be completed during the week prior to Cisco Live!  Services such as IPv6, multicast, digital signage, live video to any device, social mining, collaboration applications, mobile, security, and Cisco TelePresence®, among others will enrich the experience of the attendees. These applications are hosted on a cloud-based infrastructure that encompasses computation, storage, virtualization and automation.
