SYRACUSE, N.Y., and SAN JOSE, Calif., April 20, 2011 - Bright House Networks announced that it has deployed the Cisco® ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers as its Carrier Ethernet platform to deliver enhanced video, data, voice and mobile backhaul services throughout its converged network. This investment highlights Bright House Networks' leadership in growing its network to meet ever-increasing consumer and business bandwidth requirements as network needs become more pervasive, while reinforcing its ability to add new services such as Whole House Video On Demand, Start Over and Look Back.

With global Internet traffic projected to increase more than fourfold by 2014, the Cisco ASR platform will help Bright House Networks meet its growing bandwidth needs as it continues to add advanced products and services. The company also will use the platform to continue to expand its high-speed Internet "Road Runner Lightning" service, using DOCSIS 3.0 technology, to all of its residential and business customers.

"With the Cisco ASR 9000, we gain significant technological and operational advantages," said Craig Cowden, Bright House Networks senior vice president of network engineering and operations. "The Cisco ASR 9000 provides the capacity we need for network bandwidth growth and the necessary quality of service capabilities for our converged triple-play service offerings, while also helping us to simplify network operations."

The new platform uses Cisco's IOS® XR modular software operating system, simplifying Bright House Networks' network operations and enabling economic and seamless comprehensive system redundancy and network resiliency.

"We were pleased when Bright House Networks chose to build the foundation for its future on Cisco Carrier Routing System for their core, and even more so now that they have chosen to extend the network intelligence benefits possible by deploying the Cisco ASR 9000 technology in their network edge," said Surya Panditi, vice president and general manager, Service Provider Routing Technology Group, Cisco. "Now, with these two industry leading platforms in a more comprehensive architectural approach, they are well-equipped to address the video, mobile and cloud service demands of the zettabyte era."

In addition, Bright House Networks' Metro Ethernet architecture is certified as fully compliant with the Metro Ethernet Forum's (MEF) standards (MEF 9 and MEF 14), the industry's reference for Carrier Ethernet excellence.
