MOSCOW – April 14, 2014 – Cisco today announced the deployment of a consolidated IT infrastructure solution for a new scene of the Mariinsky Theatre (Mariinsky-2) in Saint Petersburg. The company currently is working on IT infrastructure for the historic building of the theater, whose reconstruction is to start in the next few years.
The project of a new scene construction of the world-known theater started in 2003. In collaboration with the Design Office of High-Rise and Underground Structures, Cisco has developed a unified IT infrastructure based on state-of-the-art solutions, meeting all requirements of the modern theater as a complicated communications system.
In 2010, Unified Engineering Systems, together with Cisco, have completed the pilot project that included key components of the future solution — data network layout and VoIP system. After the customer accepted test results, Cisco and its partners — StroyElektroMontazh No. 5, Unified Engineering Systems, Jet Infosystems — supplied and assembled hardware for the entire IT infrastructure.
Cisco-based infrastructure includes data network, wireless connectivity (Wi-Fi), VoIP system, Cisco UCS®, digital signage system (DMS), thin clients and video conference equipment. The offered solution features close integration of all components, ensuring flexible scalability and user-friendly administration.
Theater’s IT infrastructure scalability options will be demanded in the coming years. After the work on a new scene was completed, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation started the project of reconstruction of the historic theater, built in 1860. At present, Cisco and its partners are consulting designers of the IT infrastructure of the historic building on what is expected to be developed based on the implemented solutions.

Modern capabilities of Cisco’s video equipment ensure high flexibility, so we can use screens installed inside the premises in different scenarios. Thus, they allow us to demonstrate info and marketing content during the day, to broadcast performances in the evening, and to view satellite and local TV channels on the same screens”.
Mikhail Safronov, systems engineer, Cisco:
“This project has implemented an up-to-date holistic approach to creating an enterprise IT infrastructure. It includes multiple subsystems, such as corporate network, Internet edge, data center, unified communications system, digital signage and VDI. About the Mariinsky Theatre
For more than two centuries the Mariinsky Theatre has been presenting the world with a plethora of great artists: the outstanding bass and founding father of the Russian operatic performing school Osip Petrov served here; this is where such great singers as Fyodor Chaliapin, Ivan Yershov, Medea and Nikolai Figner and Sofia Preobrazhenskaya honed their skills and rose to glory. Ballet dancers reigned supreme on this stage, among them Mathilde Kschessinska, Anna Pavlova, Vaslav Nijinsky, Galina Ulanova, Rudolf Nureyev and Mikhail Baryshnikov. This is where George Balanchine set out on the road to art. This theatre has witnessed the dawn of the talents of such brilliant theatre decorators as Konstantin Korovin, Alexander Golovin, Alexandre Benois, Simon Virsaladze and Fyodor Fyodorovsky, among countless others.
