Marthin De Beer, Senior Vice President of Cisco's Video and Collaboration Group, is responsible for the company's efforts around end-to-end video and collaboration, energy, and home networking.
Video and collaboration are two of Cisco's five corporate priorities and key growth drivers for the networking business. In addition to managing Cisco's efforts in these two areas, De Beer is responsible for incubating a steady stream of high-growth, emerging technology businesses that can generate $1 billion in revenue and take Cisco into new adjacent markets. Under his leadership, Cisco's telepresence business has grown from an emerging technology to become the market leader. De Beer was instrumental in Cisco's successful acquisition of Tandberg, a global leader in video communications. His additional responsibilities include Cisco's home networking and connected energy efforts.
Under De Beer's guidance, Cisco's pursuit of innovation continues with the Cisco internal Idea Zone (I-Zone) contest, as well as the open, external Innovation Prize (I-Prize) competition. Winning ideas from these contests are selected to become the next Cisco emerging technology.
During his more than 16-year tenure at Cisco, De Beer has held various leadership positions, including responsibility for Cisco's global enterprise IP communications solutions and leading the introduction of Cisco's Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data (AVVID) solution. He was instrumental in taking Cisco's IP communications business from inception to a nearly $1 billion business.
Earlier in his career, De Beer was founder of two start-up companies and has held senior marketing and engineering positions at Hughes LAN Systems, Persetel Computer Systems, and Atlas Aircraft. De Beer is on the Board of Directors for the US Russia Business Council and is a member of the selection committee for the World Economic Forum, Technology Pioneer Community. He holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and is also the holder of several technology patents.
