Election 2012 and Social Media: Insights from Experts on the Campaign Trail

Elections have never been more social with more shared photos, tweets, likes, and unlikes than ever before. We checked in with a few social and digital leads at the National Political Conventions and captured their thoughts on the power of social media.

It is a busy time, to say the least, for those leading social and digital efforts on the Presidential campaign trail. From Facebook to Twitter and the campaigns they are helping to fuel, we have insight into how social media is changing the way people stay informed and engaged during this election season.

KATIE HARBATH: IT'S VERY POWERFUL AND IT ALLOWS CAMPAIGNS AND IT ALLOWS PEOPLE TO REALLY GET AN UNFILTERED, VERY QUICK IDEA OF WHAT EVERYBODY THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT WAS SAID.

PEOPLE IN THE HALL REACTING TO THE SPEAKER, PEOPLE AT HOME WATCHING ON TV REACTING TO WHAT THEY'RE SEEING IN THE HALL AND NOW BEING ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN REAL-TIME.

MY HOPE IS THAT WHEN PEOPLE ARE LOOKING AT THIS, THEY'RE LOOKING ABOUT HOW CAN THEY HAVE A RICHER CONVERSATION AND A RICHER ENGAGEMENT WITH THE CONVENTION, NOT ABOUT WHAT PARTY IT IS THAT'S HAVING IT BECAUSE IT PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES THAT WEREN'T THERE FOUR YEARS AGO AND I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHERE IT'S HEADING IN THE NEXT FOUR YEARS.
