"The Maze Within"

John Earnhardt
August 11 , 2011

The eighth poet in our summer poetry series is Edwin Torres. Torres' poem, "The Maze Within," tells the story of how we are now in charge of entertaining and informing ourselves through social networks.

Torres has also appeared on MTV's Spoken Word Unplugged and the Charlie Rose Show; he has also been featured in Newsweek, Rolling Stone Magazine and New York Magazine. His poem, "I Saw Your Empire State Building," was included in the book, Words In Your Face: A Guided Tour Through Twenty Years of the New York City Poetry Slam in the chapter that dealt with the poetry slam community's response to 9/11. Torres' work has also appeared in numerous anthologies such as Aloud: Voices from the Nuyorican Poets Cafe,Short Fuse: The Global Anthology of New Fusion Poetry, and Heights of the Marvelous: A New York Anthology, among many others.

To the one that entertains you, who are we looking for, but us.  Come to the screen lit bright by who?  On the other side is us…We are fans of what we live for. Friend me so I might live for.

-- Edwin Torres
