Cisco Gives Back: 2013 Global Hunger Relief Campaign

Every day around the world, 870 million people go hungry. Cisco and its employees are working to put a dent in those numbers, with the 2013 Global Hunger Relief Campaign.

This year Cisco’s goal is $1.4 million in employee donations by Dec. 31 to help those in need. The Global Hunger Relief campaign benefits 150+ different organizations across the globe. One of them is Second Harvest Food Bank in San Jose, Ca., where in just under two hours, 34 Cisco executives and committed volunteers packaged 22,425 pounds of oranges.

Kathy Jackson, CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties is grateful for the partnership, “Every year Cisco not only gives generously to our holiday campaign, but gets actively involved in our mission by volunteering and enlisting the support of its employees. When the CEO of a major corporation like Cisco actually comes to the Food Bank and rolls up his sleeves, it says a lot.”

 Another group Cisco supports is Stop Hunger Now. Recently 200+ employees based in San Jose packed 46,111 meals in just under two hours.

Giving back is part of Cisco’s culture, led by Chairman and CEO John Chambers who urges employees to give what they can. Chambers says, “I believe those who are the most successful in life, owe an obligation to give back.”
