Nitin Kawale is President of Cisco Systems Canada Co. and responsible for overseeing all aspects of local operations, including sales, marketing, finance, distribution, and services. Cisco in Canada employs more than 2000 people and consistently ranks among the top five revenue producers of Cisco's operations. The Canadian operation is also a proving ground for the company's most advanced and innovative technologies.
Mr. Kawale has been an integral part of Cisco since 1995, both in Canada and globally. He has served in a number of key local and international roles.
Since assuming the role of President at Cisco Canada in 2008, Mr. Kawale has been a thought leader on subjects, including innovation and the need for improved productivity in Canada. He is a prominently featured keynote speaker and panelist at many leading events for information technology and business and has advised all levels of the Canadian government and is also a frequently cited voice in print, online and broadcast media.
Mr. Kawale has been among Canada's strongest advocates for accelerating innovation in in Canada. Under his leadership, Cisco has established a five-point plan for driving Canadian innovation. Among other things, the plan includes the establishment of research chairs at universities, venture-capital investment, and enhancing Cisco's Canadian footprint in research and development.
In 2011, Mr. Kawale was named the Corporate Executive of the Year by the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce – a national honour recognizing exemplary achievement in business by those of Indian heritage. Under his leadership, Cisco was for 2014 named the Top Employer in Canada by human resource consultants Aon Hewitt. It was the second year in a row that Cisco has been ranked Canada's Top Employer and the third time in five years.
Outside of Cisco, Mr. Kawale was named a Champion of Public Education in 2014 by The Learning Partnership, a national award honoring Canadian leaders who have dedicated themselves to promoting, fundraising and striving to ensure that all Canadians have a vested interest in an education system that continually reaches for excellence. is the former foundation board chair for the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital in Toronto and is also a member of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives. In 2012, Mr. Kawale was nominated to the Ontario Jobs and Prosperity Council, created by former Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty to explore ways to promote innovation, productivity and business development throughout the province.
Mr. Kawale holds a bachelor of applied sciences degree in engineering science from the University of Toronto.
