October 6, 2003
In outlining the future plans for his organization, Kim Yoon, president of Cisco Systems Korea said, "Cisco Korea will continue to be an industry leader by putting more focus on new strategic business areas where we see increased customer demand."
In the coming fiscal year, Kim stressed that Cisco Korea will concentrate on new advanced technologies such as IP telephony, wireless LANs (local area networks), security, optical, and storage networking. A new unit called the Advanced Technology Sales Team has been established to further develop these markets and open up new revenue streams, as well as to continue to expand Cisco's existing core business in routers and switches.
"Our goal is to increase revenues from advanced technologies from the current level of 10% of total Cisco revenues up to around 20%. We see a lot of market potential for such technologies in the coming year, so we will be putting more efforts into these areas," said Kim.
Kim highlights a particular focus his organization will have on the IP telephony market, which is increasingly gaining momentum. Cisco Korea will fully leverage its strength in the IP networking sector to keep its edge in the IP convergence and IP telephony market, he explained.
With regard to the challenging market conditions, Kim said, "It is difficult to say what's going to happen in the short term, but in the long term, we are confident that the economy in Korea and the region will start to grow again. Once that happens, customers looking to invest in networking technologies will continue to look to Cisco for proven reliability and quality."
Kim said, "despite the challenging economic conditions of the past year, we exceeded our revenue goals by as much as 9%. I am confident that we will be able to achieve continuous growth throughout the fiscal year 2004."
