Cisco uBR7246VXR Universal Broadband Router CMTS Receives DOCSIS 1.1 Qualification

UBR10012 CMTS Receives DOCSIS 1.0 and EURO-DOCSIS Qualification

SAN JOSE, Calif., January 21, 2002 - Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) today announced that its uBR7246VXR Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) has received qualification for Data-Over-Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSISTM) 1.1, becoming the industry's first qualified DOCSIS 1.1 Layer 3 CMTS.

The uBR7246VXR, part of the industry leading Cisco uBR7200 Series, provides a flexible platform enabling the delivery of IP services over cable infrastructures. Cisco was the first cable router vendor to combine IP routing with the DOCSIS standard and the first CMTS router to be DOCSIS 1.0 qualified by CableLabs in 1999. Since that time Cisco has delivered over 250,000 upstream ports to MSOs around the world.

"Receiving DOCSIS 1.1 qualification for the uBR7246VXR is a major milestone for the industry," said Carson Chen, vice president of Cisco's cable business unit. "With its large deployed base, new and existing customers around the world will see that the uBR7246VXR is a platform with carrier class performance and field proven architecture that enables them to reliably deliver and support new IP services such as VoIP and to gain access to new revenue streams."

DOCSIS 1.1 includes the features and capabilities that will enable cable providers to deliver and support advanced services such as primary line voice.

Cisco also announced that the uBR10012 CMTS received DOCSIS 1.0 and Euro-DOCSIS 1.0 qualification and that the uBR925 Cable Access Router has received DOCSIS 1.0 certification. The uBR10012 provides next generation network edge intelligence, as well as unmatched density and scalability. While the platform is powerful, it also provides access to field-proven advanced security, MPLS VPNs, advanced spectrum analysis, DOCSIS Support System (OSS) requirements, QoS, D-QoS, DOCSIS 1.1 compliance and compatibility with Cisco's entire line of CMTS routers. The Cisco uBR925 is part of the Cisco uBR900 Series of Cable Access Routers. They are integrated DOCSIS 1.1-based cable modem, routers, and four-port 10BaseT Ethernet hubs that offer dedicated hardware for achieving high-speed IP Security (IPSec) virtual private network (VPN) performance.
