Cisco Systems has made gifts to key relief and support organizations serving the New York City and Washington D.C. areas, including a $6 million donation. These organizations have the skilled personnel and experience to address the critical needs of our fellow citizens, and we hope our gifts will help make a difference in recovering from this tragedy.
"Cisco's goal is to support the work of the rescue workers, provide assistance to victims, and begin the healing of all affected," said Maideh Radpour, Director, Corporate Philanthropy. In addition to the $6 million dollar donation made by Cisco Systems, the Cisco Foundation is matching employee donations to key relief organizations and funds. Employees are also organizing blood drives throughout the country.
Following is a list of organizations Cisco is supporting as well as links for more information about each organization:
- American Red Cross National Capital Chapter (NCC) in Washington, DC
The Red Cross NCC provides on-going disaster relief efforts in the District of Columbia and much of the surrounding area, and they have been key in mobilizing the entire metropolitan area in support of the current effort. Cisco's donation will directly support their efforts to assist those affected by the terrorism at the Pentagon.
- American Red Cross New York City Chapter
The NYC Red Cross Chapter is a key partner in the effort to assist those affected in NYC, and Cisco's donation to the NYC Chapter will be used to support their work in providing meals, shelters, emergency response vehicles, disaster mental health teams, hotlines, and survivor and families inquiry services.
- The City of New York
The infrastructure resources of the City of New York have been very seriously depleted through the loss of equipment and life among fire, police, and search and rescue personnel. Working with city government, Cisco will be providing Infrastructure Support for the relief effort and support for children and families of victims.
- The YMCA of Greater New York
The YMCA of Greater New York is operating in the aftermath of yesterday's tragedy to fulfill their mission of caring for youth and families, and to demonstrate the qualities of compassion and tolerance in the face of turmoil.
- The Armed Services YMCA in Washington, D.C.
The ASYMCA's close relationship with the U.S. armed services is 140 years old. It provides programs and services to the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. Cisco's donation will be used to provide support for the families at the Pentagon, including both military and civilian personnel.
