Overview of Cisco's 11 Key Technology Groups

Cisco Systems has announced several organizational changes that will centralize engineering into 11 key technology groups and focus marketing under one leadership team. These technology groups include:

Access
Converged networking solutions for Small- and Medium-Size businesses, Branch Offices, and Service Provider Customer Premises Equipment customers.

Aggregation
Solutions for the edge of the networks, generally Service Provider customers, where access lines are consolidated for connection to the network core.

Core Routing
IP routing platforms for the core of internets and for connections between internets.

Ethernet Access
Ethernet switching solutions utilizing a variety of media such as Category 5 copper, optical fibers, and longer distance telephone wire for standard Ethernet connectivity to desktops as well as new Ethernet access to buildings such as hotels, office buildings, and residential complexes.

Internet Switching and Services
High-performance switching technology and products that provide medium to high-speed transmission rates to address enterprise, mid-market, and service provider customer requirements. Also includes security and content networking.

Cisco IOS Technologies Division (ITD)
Network systems software that allows the effective deployment of new applications and services quickly and without disruption.

Network Management Services
Platform-independent management products for managing Cisco services, networks, and devices.

Optical
Solutions that allow the intelligent delivery of high-capacity, high-value services for cost effective leverage of optical infrastructures.

Storage
High-capacity, low-latency networking for disaster recovery, data replication, and storage consolidation.

Voice
Products and services enabled by IP telephony/VOIP/Packet telephony

Wireless
Wireless LAN, Mobile Wireless, and Fixed Wireless solutions focused on providing IP data and IP converged services.
