Cisco to Participate in NTT's Next-Generation Network Field Trials with Cisco TelePresence
Providing a new experience with an intelligent information network
TOKYO, Japan - December 1, 2006 - Cisco® (president: Yasuki Kurosawa; head office: Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo) hereby announces that it will participate in Cisco TelePresence field trials being conducted by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. (president: Norio Wada; head office Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; NTT). Once the trials are complete, NTT expects to start full-scale commercial Cisco TelePresence services using a next-generation network (NGN). NTT will also conduct intercompany trials for Cisco TelePresence services and explore offering additional Cisco TelePresence application services.
A breakthrough technology for remote meetings, Cisco TelePresence integrates advanced audio, ultra-high-definition video, and interactive collaboration tools with the underlying network as the platform to deliver an immersive meeting experience. Through this powerful combination of technology and design, local and remote participants feel as if they are in the same room. Cisco TelePresence has the potential to transform the way organizations do business. Many organizations are already using Cisco TelePresence to make decisions faster, improve cross-cultural communications, conserve scarce resources, and move products to market faster.
In these field trials, NTT aims to further enhance its networking infrastructure into a more intelligent information network to deliver new and innovative services such as TelePresence over NTT's Internet Protocol NGN. In particular, this trial will be used to provide real-time collaboration applications such as voice and video that have QoS (quality of service), security and high availability requirements.
The trials for commercial service are scheduled to commence in December 2006 and will be on display in the NTT showrooms in Tokyo (Otemachi) and Osaka (Umeda) from Dec. 20, 2006.
Cisco aims to utilize feedback from this field trial to deploy products that rapidly respond to changes in demand throughout the world.
