Cisco Systems IP Communications Solution Helps Subic Bay Resort Provide Sun, Fun and 'Surf'

Grande Island Resort Offers Integrated Voice and Data Services to Guests

SUBIC BAY, Philippines - November 19, 2004 - Cisco Systems® announced today that Grande Island Resort, a self-contained recreational center in the 96-acre Grande Island off the shore of Subic Bay, has installed a Cisco® Internet Protocol (IP)-based communications system that enables the resort to provide its guests with enhanced voice and data communication services, including the ability to "surf" the World Wide Web.

All guestrooms and function rooms at the resort feature Cisco IP phones connected to an integrated network for video, data and voice. The system includes a new local-area network (LAN), plus network security and wireless solutions.

"One of Grande Island's key customer segments is business groups. We house many team-building seminars and conferences," said Robin Tan, president and chief executive officer of Grande Island Resort Hotel. "Cisco's IP telephony solution allows us to provide all our guests with plug and play flexibility so they stay connected while they are out of the office."

Before embarking on its relationship with Cisco, Grande Island carefully assessed the potential benefits of IP telephony. According to Mr. Tan, the primary factor in choosing Cisco was its market leadership in IP technology, both in data and voice convergence solutions, and a strong focus on customer service.

"Grande Island's deployment of Cisco's IP telephony solution is a sound investment. Aside from total cost of ownership reduction, long-distance toll reduction, single network management savings and return on investment, there are also intangible benefits to providing IP telephony technology that spell the difference for service organizations such as Grande Island: guest satisfaction and repeat customers," said Luichi Robles, country manager, Cisco Systems Philippines.

Cisco has more than 40 customers using IP telephony in the Philippines. Cisco customers in this market include Davao Light & Power Co., Inc.; Pag-Ibig Home Mutual Development Fund in Cebu; and the Philippine Stock Exchange. To date, Cisco has sold 250,000 IP phones to more than 1,000 customers in Asia Pacific. This is a significant percentage of the more than 16,500 customers, and more than 4 million phones worldwide. The growth in demand in Asia Pacific is staggering; the number of phones shipped in the 2004 financial year was double that of 2003.
