SYDNEY - 4 June, 2004 - Cisco Systems® has provided an Internet Protocol (IP) telephony, wireless, storage and network security solution to Lend Lease Corporation Limited for its new five-star energy-rated building known as The Bond in Hickson Street, Sydney.

Cisco® worked with systems integrator, Dimension Data, to supply the end-to-end network solution, which Lend Lease expects to help it reduce operational communications costs by as much as 30 percent.

The Cisco solution at the Bond will service the communications needs of more than 1100 staff, making it one of Australia's largest single-site deployments of IP telephony.

By converging voice and data onto a centrally managed IP network at The Bond, Lend Lease expects to achieve an 80 percent annual reduction in costs for staff moves, additions and changes. For instance, the new network provides users with easy access to universal outlets for data, voice and videoconferencing, eliminating the need for expensive re-cabling.

The equipment Lend Lease installed into The Bond includes 1100 Cisco IP Phone 7960s , 200 Cisco IP Softphones, Cisco CallManager 3.2 and two Cisco Catalyst® 6000 Series switches.

A storage area network (SAN) from Cisco was introduced to double the previous storage capacity, while reducing spatial and weight loads to the building. Annual storage-maintenance costs have also decreased by more than 80 percent. The SAN is based on the deployment of Cisco MDS 9000 Family of Multilayer Intelligent directors and fabric switches, attached to Lend Lease's IBM Enterprise Storage Server. Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series intelligent switches intelligent switches were used in The Bond as core network-layer devices, while Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series intelligent switches were installed in wiring closets.

To help improve workforce productivity in the open plan environment of The Bond, and to accommodate the communications needs of visitors, a Cisco wireless local-area network (WLAN) was also deployed. The WLAN provides users with secure access to the Lend Lease intranet across all floors of The Bond, through connectivity by more than 60 Cisco Aironet® access points operating on the 802.11g wireless standard as endorsed by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). To improve the appearance of the building, the access points are hidden in the walls and ceilings.
