Cisco Systems, Inc. names Ed Carney Research Triangle Park Site Executive

Vice President of Networked Solutions Integration Test Engineering (NSITE) laboratory assumes additional role

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, July 28, 2000 - Cisco Systems, Inc., the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet today announced that Ed Carney, Cisco's vice president of engineering for its Networked Solutions Integration Test Engineering (NSITE) laboratory, has been appointed the new site executive for Cisco's Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina site.

Carney will maintain NSITE responsibilities in addition to assuming the site executive role. In his NSITE role, Carney supervises over 200 Cisco engineers in North Carolina, Europe and in the Asia Pacific Region. The NSITE lab supports research and development in Cisco's Service Provider Line of Business by ensuring test and interoperability of Cisco developed products and solutions in various service provider environments.

In his new role as site executive, Carney will also oversee the aggressive growth of Cisco's RTP presence. Approximately 2500 employees currently work at the RTP site This number is expected to grow to 4000 by the end of 2002. Additionally, Cisco recently purchased 140 acres of land adjacent to its current campus for expansion beyond 2002.

Prior to joining Cisco Systems in 1996, 46 year-old Carney worked for IBM for 15 years, most recently in LaGaude, France, as the Director of Engineering and Operations for the IBM Global Network. Carney holds a B.S. in General Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. He currently resides in Cary, NC, with his wife, Ingrid, and two children Christopher 16, and Madeleine 10.
