Customer Highlights and Technology Innovation

Cisco's fiscal year 2006 third quarter was characterized by the acquisition of Scientific Atlanta, a leading global provider of set-top boxes, completing Cisco's end-to-end quadruple play solution, and the introduction of the Cisco Unified Communications system, a new suite of voice, data and video products and applications specifically designed to help organizations of all sizes communicate more effectively.

Cisco achieved significant technology innovations and customer wins across all target markets: Enterprise, Service Provider, Commercial (small- and medium-sized businesses), and Consumer/Home Networking. Worldwide customer wins in unified communications, routing, switching, security, wireless, optical and storage area networking (SAN) continued across all vertical industries. Cisco continued to see momentum in the service provider market as well, with new contracts from Deutsche Telekom and BT Group.

  • Cisco announced it has completed the acquisition of Scientific Atlanta, a leading global provider of set-top boxes, end-to-end video distribution networks and video systems integration.
  • Cisco announced the Cisco Unified Communications system, a new suite of voice, data and video products and applications specifically designed to help organizations of all sizes communicate more effectively.
  • Cisco announced the Cisco MDS 9513 Multilayer Director and four new Fibre Channel modules that scale to 4 and 10 gigabits-per-second performance.
  • Cisco introduced the Cisco ME 6524 and the Cisco ONS 15310-MA along with a number of feature enhancements to its Carrier Ethernet technology portfolio.
  • Cisco acquired privately-held SyPixx Networks for its network-centric video surveillance software and hardware that enable existing analog video surveillance systems to operate as part of an open IP network.
  • Scientific Atlanta, a Cisco company, announced the introduction of its newest line of set-top boxes, designed to provide cable operators with increased power, flexibility and with advanced security solutions.
  • Cisco announced the Cisco Security Management Suite,a new integrated set of security management applications that provide an improved operational framework for system-wide security policy enforcement and administration.
  • Cisco announced significant new services to its "Anti-X" network threat prevention and Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network (SSL VPN) solutions.
  • Cisco announced the availability of its next-generation Application Delivery solution, the Cisco Application Control Engine (ACE), with the industry's highest performance of up to 16 gigabits per second (Gbps) of throughput, rich multi-layer security, and unique virtual partitioning capabilities.
  • Cisco launched its IP Radio Access Network (RAN) optimization solution - a comprehensive RAN vendor-neutral solution set that uses IP to increase network efficiency, reduce costs and speed to market new and innovative mobile services.
