First Quarter, Fiscal Year 2005 Customer Highlights and Technology Innovation Fact Sheet

Cisco's fiscal year 2005 first quarter was characterized by significant customer wins and technology innovations across all customer segments: Enterprise, Service Provider, Commercial (small- and medium- sized businesses), and Consumer (networking for small office/home office). Cisco continued its momentum across several market segments, achieving significant worldwide customer wins in IP communications, optical, and wireless; announcing vertical deployments in financial services, healthcare, and retail; and recognizing strong momentum in the home networking/consumer market. Cisco also extended its commitment to network security-announcing new security solutions and relationships with Microsoft, IBM, and Computer Associates.
Following are significant innovations highlights from the past quarter:
Enterprise Segment Partner and Customer Highlights:- Bank of America announced it plans to deploy 180,000 Cisco Internet Protocol (IP) telephones in 5,800 locations throughout the United States with the help of Cisco Gold channel partner EDS.
- Working with Cisco Gold channel partner SBC, Ford Motor Company will install 50,000 Cisco IP phones in 110 offices throughout Michigan.
- Cisco marked shipment of more than one million IP phones in Europe with 6,000 phones sent to Denmark's Bankernes EDB Central.
- Cisco and Microsoft will work together to share and integrate their respective security technologies to help mutual customers better address the threat and impact of malicious software.
- Germany's Media-Saturn will implement Cisco's Intelligent Retail network framework, including 40,000 IP phones and wireless access points, in almost 500 stores within 11 European countries.
- Qatar Telecom is constructing that country's first service-oriented IT data center based on Cisco networking equipment.
- Hong Kong Cyberport deployed a 10 Gigabit Ethernet network built on Cisco Catalyst 6500 and 3500 Series switches.
- The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China is unifying its regional networks using Cisco Catalyst switches and routers.
- Mokena, Illinois-based Provena Health community hospitals has deployed, by Cisco Gold channel partner SBC, a Cisco Medical-Grade network.
- Cisco Wi-Fi technology has been deployed, by Cisco Silver channel partner Wide Area Management Services, at Minute Maid ballpark, home of the Houston Astros, to provide wireless access to fans, vendors, media and staff.
- Singapore's Republic Polytechnic has implemented a wireless IP Communications system provided by Radiance Communications using equipment from Cisco.
- Australian NIB Health Funds Ltd. has installed an IP Communications solution from Cisco and Allcom Networks for its Newcastle Private Hospital.
- Cisco announced the establishment of a US $50 million financing facility to help Korean small and medium-sized businesses adopt and deploy networking technologies.
- France Telecom and Cisco will collaborate to develop Cisco-based IP services for the 250 largest French and French-based multinational corporations, particularly in the banking, automobile, retail and public sector markets.
- Italy-based Mediaset has deployed a Cisco optical network to connect its branch offices across the Rome metropolitan area.
- Covad Communications Group is offering business-class Voice over IP services based on Cisco networking equipment.
- Malaysia-based Pacific & Orient is taking its remote security business global, built over an IP network infrastructure from Cisco.
- Vietnam Datacommunication Co. is migrating to an IP network with Cisco technology.
- Cisco unveiled its Security VPN/Firewall Express specialization for channel partners who sell into the commercial market and support Cisco's Self Defending Network strategy.
- Cisco unveiled the customer relationship management (CRM) Express Solution Specialization for Microsoft Business Solutions CRM, offering small and medium-sized businesses and branch offices a communications solution that helps improve customer satisfaction and increase productivity.
- Cisco launched the Opportunity Incentive Program in Europe, Middle East and Africa to reward channel partners that secure business within the commercial market segment.
- Cisco channel partner Avnet will deploy Cisco networking storage solution at Exempla Healthcare.
- Linksys announced its new line of Consumer VoIP productsa broadband router and telephone adapter- that enables users to save money and get more use out of their broadband connection.
- Broadband phone service leader Vonage now offers its telephony service for use with Linksys Voice over IP devices to meet demand in the growing broadband communications marketplace.
- AT&T and Linksys announced VoIP devices that combine the capabilities of a router with an analog telephone adapter to enhance home networking and broadband phone service.
- Verizon is including Linksys phone adapters in its broadband phone service installation kits.
- Linksys announced the Wireless A/G Media Center Extender, which enables users to stream digitized music, videos or photos from their Microsoft Media Center PC to devices in the home such as stereos and TVs.
- Linksys also announced Dual-Band wireless A+G home networking products to provide wireless video streaming, Internet sharing, gaming and more.
- Cisco introduced Integrated Services Routers, the industry's first routers to deliver secure, wire-speed data, voice, and video services to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and enterprise branch offices, as well as service providers for managed network services offerings.
- Cisco added two products to its award-winning Cisco MDS 9000 Family of Multilayer Intelligent directors and fabric switches optimized for transporting storage area network (SAN) traffic over metro and wide area networks. Cisco also introduced software features for the 9000 Family to help make SANs more secure, easier to configure and manage, and able to send data over longer distances faster and more efficiently.
- Cisco introduced Catalyst products and services designed and priced specifically for small and medium-sized businesses.
- Cisco announced new security features for its IP Communications system that enhance voice privacy and further the company's standing as the world's leading provider of secure IP Communications solutions.
- Cisco and IBM announced integrated solutions designed to reduce the damage and disruption that viruses, worms and other security vulnerabilities can cause to enterprise networks.
- Computer Associates joined the Network Admission Control (NAC) program and is integrating the Cisco Trust Agent with its anti-spyware and antivirus solutions.
