Cisco's fiscal year 2004 fourth quarter was characterized by significant customer wins and technology innovations across all customer segments: Enterprise, Service Provider, Commercial (small and medium-sized businesses), and Consumer (networking for small office/home office). Cisco achieved worldwide customer wins in the advanced technology areas of IP communications, storage, wireless, and security; announced vertical deployments in education, transportation, and hospitality; and recognized continued momentum in the service provider segment. In the security arena, Cisco extended its relationship with Trend Micro, further addressing critical customer needs. Cisco also unveiled one of the company's most significant routing innovations, the Cisco Carrier Routing System (CRS-1), capable of handling 92 terabits of data.
Following are significant innovations highlights from the past quarter:
Enterprise Segment Partner and Customer Highlights:- Boeing Company has selected Cisco IP telephony for its global enterprise, which includes more than 150,000 employees in 48 states and 70 countries.
- Adobe installed Cisco's 3 millionth IP phone as part of its IP communications system for its worldwide offices.
- Cisco and Trend Micro extended their security relationship to deliver virus and worm outbreak prevention solutions that help protect networked businesses.
- IBM and Cisco unveiled a broad IP Communications initiative to help organizations of all sizes integrate and implement converged voice, video and data systems for the commercial and enterprise market.
- Italian-based Brembo, brakes provider for Ferrari, Mercedes and Porsche, will install a Cisco IP communications infrastructure.
- Cisco announced the Cisco Intelligent Roadway Solutions, tailored for the global roadways industry.
- Cisco provided IP telephony, wireless, storage and network security solutions to Sydney's Lend Lease Ltd. for its new five-star energy-rated building.
- Electronic Arts has begun standardizing its storage area networking infrastructure using the Cisco MDS 9000 Family of Multilayer Intelligent directors and fabric switches.
- Cisco announced the Cisco Metropolitan Mobile Network solution, which provides broadband wireless access across a city to public sector agencies.
- Cisco and NextiraOne installed a Cisco IP Communications system at the Sheraton Krakow Hotel in Warsaw, Poland.
- Langham Place Hotel in Hong Kong installed Cisco wireless solutions and IP telephones in its 665 guest rooms.
- Bangkok-based Rangsit University's Satit Bilingual School has built the fastest university campus network in Thailand with solutions from Cisco and Datacraft.
- The National University of Singapore deployed a campus-wide wireless network using the Cisco Aironet 1200 Series 802.11g solution.
- BellSouth is deploying a network solution based on Cisco 7600 Series routers to expand its Metro Ethernet service portfolio that offers businesses the ability to support bandwidth intensive solutions.
- Cisco proliferated managed network services to end-users via relationships with leading carriers such as AT&T, BellSouth, SBC and Sprint.
- Ethiopia's ETC has deployed a Cisco ONS 15454-based optical transport infrastructure and IP/MPLS core network to help transport voice, data and multimedia throughout the country.
- Paris-based mobile phone company Orange plans France's largest WiFi deployment using Cisco wireless technology.
- ADP Télécom is deploying Cisco platforms to deliver wireless LAN services at Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport's Terminal 1 in Paris.
- Sydney-based PowerTel Ltd selected Cisco 12000 Series routing solutions to upgrade its optical and core routing network.
- BankThai deployed a Cisco high-speed optical network for business continuance in an emergency.
- Telekom Malaysia will expand its MPLS IP-VPN infrastructure using Cisco solutions.
- Portugal's TV Cabo, is using a Cisco-based IP video contribution network to offer digital video content.
- Cisco launched a channel program to grow its SMB market.
- Cisco introduced new global technical support services programs for its partners.
- Cisco unveiled partner specializations to address customer demand for storage networking solutions.
- Cisco launched the Partner Technical Support Services Portfolio in twelve new countries including the 10 new EU member states.
- Linksys and RealNetworks have teamed together to allow consumers to access the Rhapsody digital music service on their home stereo systems.
- As part of their new Home Networking platform, Comcast is offering its customers the Linksys Wireless-G Cable Gateway, making it easy for households to share a cable broadband connection wired or wirelessly throughout the home.
- Linksys and Maxtor will collaborate on product and technology development and will market solutions that make storing, managing, sharing and streaming personal and home entertainment content easy for consumers.
- Major product announcements this quarter from Linksys include:
- Wireless-B Media Link for Music and Wireless-B Music System for music delivery from home PCs to stereos.
- Wireless Guard, a wireless security service that foils hackers and stops unauthorized entry onto networks
- Wireless-G Range Expander, which increases the coverage of wireless networks
- Network Storage Link, which enables users to add gigabytes of storage space to home or office networks
- Cisco unveiled the Cisco Carrier Routing System (CRS-1), which was also recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's highest capacity Internet router capable of handling 92 terabits of data and offering the industry's first 40 Gbps (OC768) interface.
- Cisco and IBM collaborated to build the world's most complex chip to power the Cisco Carrier Routing System (Cisco CRS-1).
- Cisco introduced security solutions delivered through its Network Admission Control program, which help customers to defend against viruses and worms.
- Cisco set the new standard for enterprise-class wireless LANs with the introduction of the Wireless LAN Services Module for the Cisco Catalyst® 6500 Series.
- Cisco announced integrated, managed virtualization and other new capabilities for the Cisco Firewall Services Module.
