Cisco Surpasses One Million Mark in Access Product Shipments

Cisco 2500 series reaches 500,000-unit milestone

SAN JOSE, Calif. -August 13, 1996 - Cisco Systems, Inc. announced today that it has shipped more than one million access internetworking products, solidifying its leadership in the fast-growing access market. Cisco's access product line includes a full range of solutions for branch-, small- and home-office environments. The Cisco 2500 series of branch-office routers comprise 500,000 of the one million shipments.

The Cisco 2500 series began shipping in January 1994 and experienced immediate customer adoption, reaching the 100,000 unit milestone in March 1995. In the 14 months since then, Cisco has shipped another 400,000 units.

Cisco's access products improve information access between central sites such as corporate headquarters and remote sites like branch offices, small businesses and telecommuters. Access solutions help companies improve their productivity through faster, more efficient sharing of information. One example of such a user is Safeway Stores, the nation's largest grocery store chain.

"Information is one of Safeway's most valuable commodities; with more than 1,000 stores, we require reliable networking solutions to share information critical to our business," said representatives at Safeway. "Along the way, Cisco has answered our networking requirements with high-speed backbone routers, remote access servers and store-level Cisco 2500 series routers. Cisco is becoming a key internetworking vendor for Safeway by delivering scalable products designed to grow as we do."

Don Listwin, vice president and general manger of Cisco's Access Business Unit, said, "We want to thank all of our customers for using Cisco access products to extend their enterprise information technologies to their regional and branch offices. Our growing success in dial access solutions will continue to extend the power of internetworking to everyone."

Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO) is the leading global supplier of internetworking solutions for corporate intranets and the global Internet.
