Cisco Systems Completes Acquisition of LightStream Assets

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 11, 1995 -- Cisco Systems has completed itsacquisition of the assets of LightStream Corporation, ajointly heldcompany that was formed in 1993 by Bolt Beranek and Newman (BBN) and UBNetworks.

The acquisition follows an agreement signedDec. 8, 1994, under whichCisco agreed to acquire LightStream's significant assets. Completion ofthe acquisition was subject to several conditions, including aHart-Scott-Rodino clearance. The assets of the former LightStream are nowowned by Cisco Systems, Inc.

In announcing the Dec. 8 agreement, Cisco Executive Vice President JohnChambers said the acquisition would allow Cisco to become "the onlynetworking company able to offer its customers a choice of all the keytechnologies needed for the switched internetworks of tomorrow --enterprise ATM switching, workgroup ATM switching, LAN switching androuting."

Based in Billerica, Mass., LightStream is considered to be a leader inthe development of high-performance ATM networking products. The productline consists of enterprise-class ATM switches that will form the backboneof high-speed switched networks. LightStream's newest product, theLightStream 2020 ATMswitch, hasjust been named Hot Product of the Year by Data Communicationsmagazine.
